Here you will find articles and other useful information related to our specialty areas.

Succession

Succession planning is one of our specialties. The links in this section will take you to some articles with useful information about succession planning, high potential identification, and what it takes to implement a succession system.

1. An effective succession system requires an infrastructure that addresses fundamental issues such as:

  • Who should be doing what to support the succession process
  • What policies and processes are needed
  • Whether there are sufficient resources

The following  describes how to address these issues.   Requirements for Implementing a Succession System

2. It is common to think of  “high potentials” as only those who appear to be on track to senior management. Intelligence and superior performance in one position is no guarantee that someone will be successful in a different position at the next level up.

Identifying high potentials can be more challenging than it first appears to be. This article explores topics related to identifying high potentials and suggests that we broaden our definition of high potential to include those who excel in a particular function or specialty.  High Potential Identification Overview

3. Should you attempt to copy a very successful succession plan used by another company? The answer is no. The best succession plan is one that fits the needs and resources of your organization. This article explores what you should consider when preparing a succession plan. Succession Planning Overview

4. Many people consider development and succession as synonymous. They are not.  Development is a key succession process, but it is not the only one.  The following article briefly describes the distinctions between the two. succession-is-not-the-same-as-development
